The Nike Dunk Low Off-White, released in 2021, closed out Virgil Abloh's sprawling "Dear Summer" project, a set of 50 Dunk Lows dropped in University Blue and Pine Green colorways distributed to friends, family, and select retail. The idea traced back to Abloh's original vision for "The Ten" collection years earlier, where the Dunk was reportedly meant to appear before logistics pushed it aside. Once it finally surfaced, the design carried the deconstructed language that had defined Off-White's Nike output since 2017: exposed foam, zip ties on the laces, Helvetica text marking left and right, and a translucent swoosh layered over the original leather panel. Retail pairs were scarce, pushing resale prices into four figures almost immediately and cementing the release as one of the most sought-after Dunk collaborations of the era. Its scarcity was compounded by Abloh's death later that year, which reframed the drop as something closer to a farewell statement. The silhouette itself, born in 1985 as a basketball shoe before its skate and streetwear afterlives, found in this release a fitting bookend to Abloh's influence on how Nike's archive gets reinterpreted for a new generation of collectors.
