Nike Air VaporMax Plus

6 colorways of the Nike Air VaporMax Plus on SoleBook.

The Nike Air VaporMax Plus arrived in 2018, born from a fusion Nike had been teasing for years: the full-length Air VaporMax cushioning system paired with the exaggerated TPU cage of the Air Max Plus, better known as the TN. That combination made the silhouette an instant hybrid, borrowing the aggressive lines and layered mesh upper of the late-90s TN while sitting it atop the sockliner-free VaporMax sole, which had itself launched in 2017 as Nike's attempt to modernize the Air unit by removing the polyurethane midsole entirely and letting the Air bag flex directly underfoot. The shoe landed at a moment when TN culture, long dominant in European and Australian streetwear scenes, was crossing back into American and global sneaker media, and Nike leaned into that momentum with gradient uppers and translucent cages reminiscent of original Plus colorways. Retail sat around $190, positioning it above standard VaporMax releases. Runners largely stayed away, since the exposed Air sole isn't built for heavy mileage, but the model found its footing as a lifestyle staple. It's since become a recurring platform for collaborations and seasonal colorways, valued more for its silhouette and Air-bag spectacle than any performance pedigree.
